Photograph of Durham Market Place showing the statue of the 3rd Marquis of Londonderry in the foreground with the Town Hall and the tower of St. Nicholas' Church behind, n.d. [c.1861 - 1863]
The statue was erected in 1861 and the photograph was taken before the inscription was engraved on the statue pedestal. Three small boys are sitting on the steps at the base.

Attached to the side of the Pant is a poster advertising a journey by steamship from Liverpool to New York for 6 guineas; to the left of the Pant is a horse and cart. The Pant was pulled down in 1863 and replaced by a new drinking fountain.
