Catalogue Description
Darlington, Central Secondary SchoolSchool set up in 1910 and called Higher Elementary School. It was established to provide more advanced instruction for pupils selected by junior scholarship examination. The pupils moved out in 1915 to accommodate the army and school re-opened in 1916 as mixed Central Commercial School. It acted as a pupil teacher centre, 1919 - 1925. In 1928 it became Central Secondary School, which closed in 1933 when the pupils transferred to the Grammar School and High School. The premises remained in use as Gladstone Street Senior School for boys until 1960 when it became Central Secondary School again. This school closed in 1983.
