Catalogue Description
8708 Private Alfred Robinson, born in Morton Palms, Darlington, County Durham. Joined 1st Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, in Stockton, 24 January 1900 and served with them for some of the South African War, also known as the Second Anglo-Boer War. Discharged 21 Feb 1901 in order to join Kitchener's Fighting Scouts. Joined the Cattle Rangers Corp in August 1901, discharged 30 December 1901. Returned to England and married in 1902, settled back in South Africa before moving to Australia in 1910.
