Newton Aycliffe St. Clare was created in 1957 from Auckland St. Andrew, Aycliffe St. Andrew, Heighington St. Michael and Shildon St. John.

Parts of this parish became part of these parishes: Newton Aycliffe (Horndale) St. Frances, Newton Aycliffe (Woodham) St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
