Catalogue Description
Aycliffe Young People's CentreThe Centre, originally Aycliffe School, opened on 23 July 1942, in a temporary war-time hostel for women munitions workers. It commenced as a Classifying School for boys destined for the Approved School system. It became the first regional centre to admit girls for intensive assessment, and has always provided facilities for the care and assessment of the most difficult, disturbed and disruptive children. The children were cared for in houses of varying sizes, including 'Open' Houses and a 'Secure' Unit.
Log Books
Detailed log books are kept for each house. They have been arranged as follows:
* whole school
* secure unit
* individual houses, alphabetically by name of house
* individual children
