Ref: D/X 1268/1Sidney James Webb, 1st Baron Passfield (1859-1947), was an English social reformer, writer, and founder of the London School of Economics in 1895. He was a member of the Labour Executive, 1916-1925; Member of Parliament for Seaham Division, 1921-1929; President of the Board of Trade, 1924; Dominions Secretary, 1929-1930; and Colonial Secretary 1929-1931. He was made Baron in 1929.
Ref: D/X 1268/32(James) Ramsay MacDonald (1866-1937) was Member of Parliament for Seaham Division, 1929-1935. He lost his seat to Emanuel Shinwell (Manny Shinwell) in 1935. He was Prime Minister in 1924 and from 1929-1935.

He was financial secretary at the War Office, 1929-1930; Parliamentary Secretary to Department of Mines, 1924, and 1930-1931; Minister of Fuel and Power, 1945-1947; Secretary of State for War, 1947-1950; Minister of Defence, 1950-1951.
