Catalogue Description
Records of the Fleming family of Tudhoe, land agents, deposited on long-term loan on27 March 1990
(Acc: 1928 (D))
This is a catalogue of the surviving records of the Fleming family of Tudhoe, land agents, and their precursors who at different times managed properties for various local landowners.
The records themselves cover the period between the middle of the 18th century and the end of the First World War although they relate mostly to the years between 1820 and 1870 and to the management of the estates of the Salvins of Burn Hall and to the Croxdale estate while in receivership during the mid-19th century.
The records are by no means complete and their arrangement has been complicated by the fact that for management purposes, different groupings of properties were treated together at different times. Searchers consulting the records may accordingly find it necessary to look in more than one section of the catalogue for documents containing information about the same property.
