Also see RD/CS Rating and Valuation

Valuation lists were produced by an independent valuation officer for the rating authority. The organisation of them varies slightly over the years, but roughly the initial list, later also known as section 1, is organised into three parts:
Part 1: Hereditaments other than Industrial or Freight-Transport
Part 2: Industrial Hereditaments
Part 3: Freight-Transport Hereditaments

Alterations, also known as 'A' Sheets, may appear at the end of the valuation list, when new rateable properties, or alterations to existing ones, are added between the date of depositing list with the rating authority, and it coming into force.

Section 2 is made up of direction sheets, also known as 'D' Sheets. These appear in a separate volume, and are when new rateable properties, or alterations to existing ones, are added after the list has come in to force.

Section 3 is a record of total values.
