Norman Foster, artist (Ref: D/X 2175/1-7)

Norman Foster was born in 1924. He lived in Stanley, near Crook and worked at the local colliery until he was made redundant at the age of 40. He then worked as a driver, later as an assistant for Durham County Library.
His work focused originally on planes and locomotives, later branching out into landscapes. He worked in watercolour and also produced ink and pencil drawings.
Exhibitions of his work were held in various galleries, including the Durham Light Infantry museum and Art Gallery and Stanhope Town Hall, and he was successful in a number of competitions.
