Peggy Eveline Brown of Holy Trinity Vicarage, Stockton on Tees (Ref: D/X 2259)

Peggy Eveline Brown was born in Lewisham, 21 February 1915, the daughter of Herbert James Brown and Grace Eveline Pratt. Herbert died in 1917 serving with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Israel. Grace remarried in 1919, to Stanley Layton Petrie, then vicar at St Barnabas, Middle Hendon, Sunderland. David Layton Petrie, a half-brother, was born at the end of 1919, he died in 1941 whilst serving with the RAF. In 1929 the family moved to the vicarage at Holy Trinity, Stockton. It is not known whether Peggy was still living with her family when Reverend Stanley Petrie moved to St Peter's, Bishopton in 1945.

Peggy's paternal grandparents were Ernest James Brown (1860-1947) and Harriet Mary Brown (nee Messent) (1858-1945), who she would visit in London. They had two other children, Vernon Sydney Brown, and Doris Harriet Dedrick (nee Brown). Peggy's maternal grandparents were Rowland Richard Pratt (1848-1913) and Clara Rebecca (nee Patmore) (1855-1912), who also had two other children, Ethel Annie Smith (nee Pratt), Rowland Clifford Pratt. In addition to this, Peggy's step-grandparents were Reverend Walter L. Petrie (1856-1929) and Amelia (nee Sones) (1855-1920).

In 1933, Peggy went to stay in Dresden, Germany, from January to October. During this time, her mother and aunt went out to visit. Peggy's visit coincided with the ascent to government of Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi Party) and there is evidence of this in both the diary, and the ephemera she collected.

Peggy Brown died at Harome, North Yorkshire, in 1995
