Catalogue Description

Records deposited on long-term loan, 8 January 1987

(Acc: 1712(D))

Introduction

The largest part of this collection of documents concerns the Sadler and Peele families.
Amy Ropner of Preston Hall, Stockton-on-Tees married in 1894 C.J. Sadler who died in 1936 [for his obituary see D/X 820/121). Their children were Doris, Eileen, Monica and Norman Sadler. Monica (b.1906) married in 1932 John Dickinson Peele who was a veterinary surgeon in the City of Durham and whose father and grandfather had been veterinary surgeons in the city before him.
Most of the documents listed here were collected by Monica Peele (nee Sadler) and record her youth, marriage, sporting activities and those of her sisters.
For a copy pedigree of the Peele family see D/X 820/123.
