Arthur Aylmer was a son of Sir Fitzgerald and Elizabeth Aylmer of Donadea Castle, County Kildare, Ireland. He was a Major in the Manx Ferables in 1794, served with the 108th Regiment of Foot (which became the 2nd Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers), was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the 68th Foot (which became the 1st Battalion The Durham Light Infantry) in 1800, Colonel in 1810, Major General in 1813 and Lieutenant General in 1825. He married Anne Harrison, daughter and heiress of John Harrison of Walworth Castle and, when General Aylmer came to live at Walworth, he became a Magistrate for the County and Chairman of the Quarter Sessions. He had one son, John Harrison Aylmer. General Aylmer died on 5 February 1831 and was buried at the parish church of Heighington.
