Correspondence concerning a petition of the parishioners of South Shields to Parliament requesting an Act of Parliament authorising the Dean and Chapter of Durham to appropriate the proceeds of the sale of property required for the Docks and Pier at South Shields, for the improvement of the revenues of the incumbents of the town. Mr. Robert Ingham the local M.P. agreed to introduce a Bill and solicited the support of members of both houses. Mr. R.W. Swinburne led the campaign from South Shields so letters from him, therefore, are draft.
