Building of new schools (Ref: EP/SS.SH 11/section 02)Building of new church schools in Oyston Street (Ref: EP/SS.SH)

11/111-130
The original schools were situated on a piece of waste land opposite the Tyne Plate Glass Works. There was no room for expansion so a proposed new Infants' School would have to have been sited away from the main buildings. Eventually the Plate Glass Co. offered to provide a new site for all three schools and to bear all the building costs in exchange for the original site, 1863 - 1873

Correspondence relating to the actual building work. The earlier letters discuss possible sites for the new school before it was finally decided to build in Oyston Street. Various problems arose before the buildings were finally completed. The old school was rendered uninhabitable before the new school was ready and disputes arose as to the liability of the Plate Glass Company. All of the letters are addressed to Rev. T.H. Chester, 6 October 1863 - 7 July 1873
