On this occasion the 6th brigade was closely following up the retreating enemy and 2/DLI was clearing ground on the left flank of the advance towards the Mu river. This picture shows part of the leading platoon of D company crossing some 800 yards of the open bed of the chaung immediately before being engaged by elements of the enemy rearguard occupying the far bank. In this short action Lieutenant Beadell, platoon commander, was killed. He was a newly joined officer and had been with my company only two or three months, we buried him that evening in Paga, 29 December 1944
