Messrs J B Chapman and John Forster (Ref: D/XP 172)

John Forster (whose father was a mayor of Durham) was an architect and builder. In the 1870s he bought land in the Neville's Cross area to be developed as "The Avenue" where he built his own house "The Tower". He was also involved in building on the new North Road in the 1880s.
