Catalogue Contents

Easington Colliery Our Lady Roman Catholic Parish (Ref: RC/EC)

The Roman Catholic parish of Easington Village, Our Lady of Victories and St. Thomas was formed in 1865. The Roman Catholic church of Easington Colliery, St. Mary, was opened in c.1924. Both churches operated within the one parish until 1978 when they were both superseded by the new church of Easington Colliery, Our Lady.

It should be noted, however, that separate baptism registers were kept for Easington Village and Easington Colliery R.C. churches during the period 1923-1978. All marriages, during this period were performed at Easington Village R.C. Church. All deaths for the same period were recorded in the death registers of Easington Village R.C. Church.

Easington Our Lady RC church closed in 2014, the area becoming part of the parish of Horden Our Lady Star of the Sea.
