The National Association of Colliery Overmen, Deputies and Shotfirers (Durham area) (N.A.C.O.D.S) (Ref: D/DDMA)
Formerly known as the Durham Deputies' Mutual Aid Association, which was established in 1875, and for many years was the focus of bitter rivalry with the Durham Miners' Association over membership 'poaching' activities, a situation which was not resolved until the beginning of the Second World War (W.R. Garside, The Durham Miners, 1919-1960, London, 1971).
