Durham Miners' Association. Castle Eden Colliery Lodge - copper token, n.d. Also known as a pit or colliery check. A miner collected two personally numbered tokens at the start of his shift. One was handed to the banksman on entering the cage to descend to the pit. The other was kept on the miner's person until he returned to bank and handed it in at the lamp room or time office.
