'An Act to inable John [Cosin] Lord Bishop of Durham and his Successors to make Leases for three lives of certaine Lead Mines' [1667] Signed at foot 'John Browne Clerk of the Parliaments' Endorsed (head) 'Mr. Wharton's Act of Parliament for Lead Mines' '19 Charles 2nd 1667' Endorsed (foot) 'Act of Parliament for Lead Mines in Weredale [Weardale]' [The Act recites that Humphrey Wharton has been granted the office of moor master for life (i.e. he has been granted all the bishop's lead mining rights in the parishes of Stanhope and Wolsingham) and gives the bishop the right to grant the office to Humphrey Wharton and his heirs for the period of a lease for three lives in consideration of one ninth of the ore obtained and £150 p.a.]
