Catalogue Description

Records deposited on long-term loan:

Chambers' grocery business was established between 1902 and 1914 by Mrs. Ellen Chambers and taken over by her son, Alfred, between 1934 and 1938. In the 1960s the owner was Mrs. A. E. Muttitt.
Described as a 'grocer' and 'fruiterer' in contemporary directories, Chambers was also a ship's chandler supplying food produce to many of the ships that berthed in Seaham Harbour.
