Catalogue Contents
Fowler House Charity was founded on 1877 by Abraham Hilton of Barnard Castle, a spirit merchant. It consisted of the endowment of 6 acres of freehold land situated in Heighington and 10 acres and a dwelling house held copyhold of the Manor of Bondgate also situated in Heighington. The income from this endowment was to be held in trust and applied by the trustees, to providing up to four pensions for sick, aged or disabled persons resident in one of the parishes of Heighington, Gainford or St. Helens Auckland, provided that the pensioners were not also in receipt of parochial relief.
