Born, 1857; enlisted as Bandsman in the 4th Battalion, The King's Royal Rifle Corps, 30 June 1870; studied at Kneller Hall, playing E flat clarinet, 9 May 1874 - 11 November 1875; student Bandmaster at Kneller Hall, as Sergeant in 4th Battalion, The King's Royal Rifle Corps, 1883; qualified as Bandmaster and appointed to 2nd Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry, 7 July 1886; retired to pension, 7 July 1891; his brother, Patrick, also attended Kneller Hall in 1874; died 1917; buried in Morden Cemetery, Surrey.
