Laurence Whittle, 1919-1941 (Ref: E/St/G 103-104)

Laurence Whittle was born in October1919, son of Florence and John Whittle. The family lived at 1 Railway Street, Craghead. He attended Alderman Wood Secondary School (later Tanfield School), where he met May Colledge, who he married in 1941. He was killed during an RAF bombing raid on Hamburg on 30 June 1941, when they had only been married for two months.
