Catalogue Contents
Sons of the Desert is the official appreciation society for actors and comedians Stan Laurel, born Arthur Stanley Jefferson (1890-1965) and Oliver Norvell Hardy (1892-1957). The Sons of the Desert was formed in 1964 and is named after the fictional lodge to which Laurel and Hardy belonged in the film of the same name (1933). Each local group describes itself as a tent and names itself after a Laurel and Hardy film: Hog Wild was issued in 1930. Hog Wild Tent, Bishop Auckland had its first meeting on 8 December 1994 and closed in 2024.
