This new master plan for the Aykley Heads site replaced an early 1960 layout plan of land owned by Durham County Council at Aykley Heads which had been prepared by the Planning Department showing the distribution of main uses. The report is divided into the following sections:
Introduction, Land Requirements, Proposals, Roads, Woodlands, Pedestrian Circulation, Car Parking, and Agriculture and Phasing
The proposals cover:
Durham County Police Headquarters, Recreation Centre for County Education Committee, Playing Fields, Goods Station for British Transport Commission, An Open Air Folk Museum, Durham Light Infantry Museum, Child Guidance Clinic, Durham City Day School, Hostel for 25 female persons in connection with existing training centre, Detached playing field for St Leonard's School, and Aykley Heads House
