Catalogue Description

13650 Private John Thomas Petty, born in Marske, North Yorkshire, moved to County Durham and lived much of his adult life in Shildon. Enlisted August 1914, into the 14th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and served with them until December 1916; commissioned Second Lieutenant to Northumberland Fusiliers, April 1916. Head of the Auxiliary Fire Service in Shildon during the Second World War.
