Copy letter from Ernest H Kirkup, Leazes Hall, Burnopfield, to Dorothy Rand, by hand, returning a book and sending, via her father, the original valuation of the 'King Oak', 1808 which was felled about 1940 with the beech, 'because left alone, losing the shelter of surrounding trees, it would have blown down. It obviously survived the slaughter by Stoney Bowes of the Gibside woodlands about 1780', 24 August 1970
