The Durham County Domestic Subjects Teachers' Association was formed on 2 March 1918 'for purely educational purposes'. By 1936 it was known as the Durham County Domestic Science Teachers' Association, and in 1973 the name was changed to the Durham County Home Economics Teachers' Association.
