Houghall School of Agriculture (Ref: CC/Education)

A house and land at Houghall were purchased from the University of Durham by Durham County Council in 1921 as a centre of agricultural education and experiment in the county. In 1938 a school was established there for the training of students of agriculture.
Houghall Horticultural Station was administered by the Education Department until 1930, by the Agricultural Department from 1931, and by the School of Agriculture from 1949.
The meteorological registers contain the monthly returns to the Meteorological Office, London. They also contain horticultural crop observations from 1925 to July 1932.

Durham County Milk Recording Society (Ref: CC/Education 748)

The stated object of the society was "improving the standard of dairy cattle and the methods of feeding them" through recording by local farmers. They met generally at Darlington, but in 1941-1942 met in Durham City, at Houghall School of Agriculture, as Durham County Milk Recording Society.
