General (cash) account book of John Martindale in account with James Ramsay and himself, 13 March 1802 - 31 December 1805 Includes: colliery accounts of the Flatts Colliery, which was worked by Martindale and Ramsay on behalf of the trustees of the late William Henry Lambton. The following pits were worked: Flatt Pit (Five Quarter Seam) in Tanfield township, Engine Pit (Low Main Coal Seam), Engine Pit (Hutton Coal Seam), and Handen Hold Pit (Five Quarter Seam). Also farm accounts for Stanley Hall Farm, Pelton Farm, Pelton Allotment and Burnthouse Allotment. (Stanley Hall Farm was rented by Martindale and Ramsay from Edward Townley Standish, and Pelton Farm was rented from the trustees of the late W. H. Lambton). The farm accounts include the sale and purchase of horses, and other farm stock, at Newcastle Fair, Morpeth Market and elsewhere. (John Martindale was surveyor of highways for Pelton within the period covered by these accounts) (1 volume, leather quarter bound, lacking front and end pages; originally parchment bound in part of a Dean and Chapter of Durham lease)
