Catalogue Description

Darlington Deaf School

Set up by the school board in Commercial Street in 1897 with ten pupils. The Board of Education ceased to recognise the school because there were too few deaf children in Darlington to make the school viable and the school closed in 1905 when its five pupils were sent to the Northern Counties Institution for the Deaf and Dumb.
