Catalogue Description

Darlington, Beaumont Street School

A Board School which opened in 1886 to accommodate children from Bank Top, Skinnergate and Bridge Street. It had senior, junior and infant departments. In 1908 the juniors moved to Darlington, Bondgate School and the boys moved into the vacant department while the girls remained in the senior school. In 1920 it became a true senior school for the eleven to fourteen year olds. In 1936/7 the juniors were reunited with the infant department and the senior children moved to Darlington, Eastbourne School. The school closed in 1966 and the children moved to Darlington, Skerne Park School.
