Catalogue Description
Darlington, Bondgate SchoolWesleyan Methodist school which opened in 1858 with infants, girls and boys departments. Before that the Wesleyans had run a Sunday School and a Girls' day school was set up at Skinnergate in 1823. The Education Authority took over the school in 1908. The junior girls and infants combined in 1923, the senior girls having transferred to Darlington, Kendrew Street School in 1919. The boys' school also became a junior school in 1912 and later combined with girls as a mixed junior and infants' school in 1928. The school closed in 1936 when the children transferred to Darlington, Beaumont Street School.
