Bearpark was a tithe-free part of the Elvet township of Durham St. Oswald parish (which also included Old Durham, Elvet Barony, and Finchale) and a separate parish from 1879
- Elvet was part of Durham Poor Law Union 1834-1930
- Elvet was a civil parish in 1866
- Elvet was part of Durham Rural Sanitary District 1875-1894
- Elvet lost Finchale and was renamed Bearpark in 1894, with an elected council
- Bearpark lost the Durham St Oswald area (Old Durham and Elvet Barony) in 1895
- Bearpark was part of Durham Rural District 1894-1974
- Bearpark was part of Durham City District 1974-2009
