Leaders' meetings minutes and quarterly statements of membership, 1881 - 1901, contains a description of the early days of the mission by Samuel Roulston, Society Steward. 'In the month of April 1880 a few friends and myself, after much prayer and thought, resolved to open a mission in the neighbourhood of Park Place ... The room will hold about 200 people. We furnished the room with seats, gas, etc. and got it ready on the 1st Sunday in May 1880. We decided to connect ourselves with the Methodist New Connexion (several of us having formerly belonged to that church) .... Our first Quarterly Meeting was held in the latter end of July .... The second Quarterly meeting was held in the month of October when 66 members were returned and 8 on trial showing an increase of 21 members'
