Easington Colliery Methodist Church (Ref: M/DCP 178-201)

The Wesleyan Methodist church was opened on 7 November 1917. In 1942 it merged with St. John's (formerly the United Methodist Church) which was opened in 1913 and is now the main Methodist Church.
Primitive Methodists were active in the area as early as 1831 but their main Society was established at the beginning of the twentieth century. They used various temporary buildings: in 1920 they bought two army huts which had been used to house Belgians at Birtley during the First World War. These were used as a chapel. In 1932 they took the name of Bourne Methodist Church and in December 1956 they amalgamated with St. John's].
