INTRODUCTION
These documents were deposited with the Darlington branch of the National Provincial Bank, by John Harris of 'Woodside' near Darlington, civil engineer, between 1854 and 1867 in order to secure an account with the bank. Many of the documents relate to property in Bondgate in Darlington. The documents have been listed according to the numbers on the original bundles.* Bundle 5 contains John Harris' agreements with the National Provincial Bank, whereby he deposited his title deeds etc. with the bank.
* The old brown wrappings of these bundles bore different numbers to those of the bundles themselves, according to the depositors.
