John Wilson was born 26 June 1837 and died 24 March 1915. He was General Secretary of the Durham Miners' Association, Member of Parliament for Houghton-le-Spring, 1885-1886 and for Mid-Durham 1890-1915, Alderman and Chairman of Durham County Council, and Doctor of Civil Law of Durham University
