Deeds and related papers of a burgage messuage or tenement in New Elvet, Durham City, owned by the Dean & Chapter of Durham, and of other property in Elvet (including Water Lane and Rotton Row), 1705-1883 Include also:- will (5 April 1727) of William Errington of New Elvet, tailor; will (21 February 1739-1740) with probate (11 March 1739-1740) of John Shutt of Staindrop, yeoman; will (18 July 1737) with probate (29 December 1743) of Zadock Smith of New Elvet, tailor; will (19 February 1749-1750) with probate (23 February 1753-1754) of Joseph Staggs of New Elvet, joiner; will (25 March 1827) of Samuel Strong of New Elvet, innkeeper; will (22 July 1839) with probate (12 October 1843) of Ann Strong of New Elvet, widow (includes conveyance of the Black Horse Public House in New Elvet. Note on dorse that this will was produced in Chancery action of Le Maistre v Forster and others, 1897); and will (6 July 1877) with probate (1 September 1883) of George Francis Walker of 47 Old Elvet, Durham City, Master of Arts
