Photocopy of the letter book of Captain William Pryce Cumby, R.N., captain of the 32-gun frigate, the Hyperion, 1 November 1811 - 16 May 1815 The original letter book is held in the Mariners' Museum, Newport News, Virginia, U.S.A. It contains copies of the out-letters of Captain Cumby and covers the period when the Hyperion sailed from Jamaica back to Portsmouth, Hampshire, for a refit in 1812, prior to fishery protection duty off Newfoundland, Canada, a return to the U.K. at the end of 1813, and service off the French coast until the end of the Napoleonic War.

Photocopies of letters from Sir John Franklin to Captain William Pryce Cumby, R.N., Heighington, 27 March [1822] - 22 August 1836 The original letters are held in the University of Calgary Library, Alberta, Canada. Sir John Franklin (1786 - 1847), an officer in the Royal Navy and an Arctic explorer, had served with Cumby as a midshipman on the Bellerophon at Trafalgar, and drew on Cumby's experience of sailing off the Greenland coast in the Hyperion in the period 1812 - 1813
