The Ferryhill Wheelers' Cycling Club was founded in 1926, and was affiliated to the North Yorkshire and South Durham centre of the National Cyclists' Union. Race meetings were held all over the area, with the Annual General Meeting held in the first week in December. From the 1960s, commercial sponsorship provided finance for open race events.
