Catalogue Description

James Francies Durham, or "Jimmy Durham" as he was known, was born in the Sudan about 1885. He was picked up by the 2nd Battalion The Durham Light Infantry after the Battle of Ginnis, December 1885, and looked after by the sergeants of the Battalion. He later joined the Regiment, serving as a bandsman in India, Burma, England, and Ireland. He married a girl from Bishop Auckland and his daughter, Frances, lived there until her death in 1998. James Durham died of pneumonia in Fermoy in 1910.
