Catalogue Description

Record given

10 September 2001 Acc:2784(D)

Brandon School was offered to the village as a village hall in 1940. When the school closed in September 1937 it had been the intention of the Hon. G. L. Hamilton-Russell, owner of the Brancepeth Estate, to offer the school on lease for fifty years, subject to his nomination of five of the nine trustees on the proposed committee of management. A formal offer was made on 15 November 1940 by the G.H.R. Company which took over the Brancepeth Estate after Hamilton-Russell's death. The management committee was superseded by a Village Hall Association established in 1957.
