Catalogue Description

Deeds relating to the Streatlam Estate near Barnard Castle and the Wemmergill Estate in Romaldkirk. As two of the principal estates of the Bowes-Lyon family, Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, Streatlam and Wemmergill were regularly administered jointly as well as separately.

In the catalogue the respective Streatlam and Wemmergill sections are supplemented by 'Streatlam and Wemmergill combined' sections: even so, occasional references to Wemmergill affairs may still be found in Streatlam records and vice versa.
