June 1940; 8th Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry, August 1940 - 1941; Staff College course, Oxford 1941 - 1942; Staff Captain A/Q, Maidstone Sub-Area, 1941 - 1945; various staff posts in Algeria, North Africa, and Italy 1943 - 1945; seconded to the Allied Commission for Austria, 1945 - 1946; died, 29 July 1954. Born Barmby Moor, East Yorkshire, 1891; educated Durham University, 1913, and Chichester Theological College, 1919; cadet in Durham University Officer Training Corps, 1912-1913; commissioned 25 February 1915, as a Second Lieutenant, in 13th Battalion; Temporary Lieutenant from 1 July 1917; transferred to 12th Battalion, 13 December 1917; awarded the Military Cross for his actions on the Somme battlefield, 1916; wounded twice, 5 August 1916 and 4 October 1918; relinquished commission on completion of service, 9 March 1919; ordained after the war and retired 1970; died 1983, aged 92.
