Catalogue Description

These scrapbooks were created by Peter William Brett Semmens and his daughter Morwenna. Peter Semmens was later Deputy Keeper of the National Railway Museum on its move to York and a well known railway journalist, author and consultant.

The books contain press cuttings and other documents relating to Teesside Airport between 1964 and 1969. There is a particular focus on the 'London not Luton' campaign, in which Peter Semmens played an active part, against the decision by Autair International Airways to run flights from Teesside to Luton and not London Heathrow.

A short summary of the creation of the scrapbooks, including some of Morwenna Semmens' childhood memories, can be found inside the front cover of each volume.
