Myrobella House, Trimdon Colliery: photographs of ancestors of Frank Saunders and associates in Trimdon/Deaf Hill (Ref: D/X 2095/2-32)

The Carter family lived in Myrobella House, Trimdon Colliery. Myrobella House was built in 1898.
The 1901 Census records James Carter, a limestone quarryman, his wife Caroline and four children: Emily Adeline (born c. 1883); Henry Greenwood (born c.1898); Francis Louis (born c. 1899); James Victor, (born c.1900).
The 1911 Census shows the family still living in Myrobella House, with the addition of: Helen Marion (born c. 1902); George Moore (born c. 1905); Caroline Olive Johns (born c. 1907); William Douglas (born c. 1910).
In the 1939 Register, Myrobella House is split into two households. One comprises Helen Marion and Caroline Olive Carter. The second comprises Francis L. Carter, his wife Edith I. Carter and their daughter Caroline I. Carter (later Saunders) (born 1923).
The Durham County Registration Service online indexes list Caroline Carter marrying William L. Saunders in 1946. The General Register Office (GRO) indexes list their son, Frank C. Saunders, as being born in the September Quarter of 1953. Frank's relatives donated this accession (Acc. No.: 9384). They also provided additional information about many of the family members, which is recorded alongside the relevant person's entry.
Myrobella House was purchased in 1983 by Tony Blair, MP for Sedgefield 1983-2007 and prime minister, 1997-2007. He entertained various dignitaries there during his time as prime minister, including President George W. Bush, and sold the house in 2009.
