A collection of medieval deeds, relating to property owned by St Margaret's parish. As well as property in Durham City, the deeds also include property in Corbridge. Their existence is due to a grant by John Fayt, successively vicar of Simonburn and Aycliffe, to the use of St. Margaret's Chapel in 1479

These take the form of indenture between the chapelwardens, named individually, and the lessee. Details are also given of the position of the tenement, its nature (burgage, messuage, etc.) and its annual rent. Sometimes the name of the former lessee, of former and present occupiers, and of neighbouring tenants are given. The occupation and abode of the new lessee is usually given. The payments and arrears of rent are also to be found in the chapelwardens' accounts (EP/Du.SM 50-55), and in rate assessments, of which there are deposited here those for the Crossgate and Framwellgate townships. Similar indentures were issued by the chapelwardens and parish overseers (see EP/Du.SM 77)
