Born Hesleden, Castle Eden; residence Wingate; enlisted West Hartlepool, September 1914, aged 22; awarded the M.M. in October 1917 at Passchendaele; awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in the Asiago Valley, Italy; killed in action at Beaurevoir, France, 5 October 1918.
